Ever tried to copy a Disney product? If you did, hopefully you have a couple of great lawyers standing by. The company that made afortune on copying fairytales as Snowwhite will have ‘none of that’. They figure: we thought it up, we designed it, if anyone’s going to make a buck of it… it’s us. Is that so unfair? Perhaps not.
What about a company that takes the genes of corn, a product that has evolved over millions of years and modifies it a bit. Nature still did 99,99% of the work but some science geek did something to it… does that mean this company ‘owns’ that corn? Can they actually deny farmers the right to grow that corn?
What about a company that builds a waterreserve in natural stream to purify the water. Does that company ‘own’ the water?
Ownership is a strange thing. by the way, the image I posted with this article isn’t mine…. I didn’t even ask permission.

Isn’t this what art is all about? Moving people, getting them in motion… getting them involved perhaps. Or is that only the case with ‘political’ art? I guess it could be kind of difficult to see how non-figuratie paintings would get you in motion, no matter how good (or brilliant even) those paintings would be (think Pollock or Rothko). But let’s not get into that… I apreciate art hat tells me a story or sends out a message more than art that just looks/sounds/feels nice. An artist friend described it as such: “those works are just no longer relevant” and I agree with that.
I think I can safely classify the CultBlender United project as a relevat art-project. The aim is to get people involved and actively take part in this Global Village (anyone else hate that term?)… getting creative people worldwide to wor together on art projects to provide them with an opportunity to show their art in places where they’ve never been… This all may sound a bit soft, but at least it’s relevant.

Relevant question: does this world really need CultBlender United? Isn’t it already perfect the way it is? It’s so beautifully interactive and arty out here. Why would we want a couple of creative geeks to come and f… it up?
Some people just keep on dreaming about being awake. On our blog we want to keep you all posted on our dreams and how they develop. Just another day inthe life of people writing online art history…
